Leaning on local legends, the 'Sound' EP was recorded during lockdown 2020. Postponing sessions for the fourth Only Child album, due to the pandemic, songwriter Alan O'Hare picked an old project out of his workbook, set to (socially-distanced) work with longtime collaborator Jon Lawton, and recorded a collection of his favourite songs written by Liverpool artists. "I'd thought about recording these songs for a while and had a list of about ten tunes initially. I whittled it down to half a dozen and sent my demos to Jon. What you hear on the EP is the result of sharing files online, a couple of socially-distanced sessions and the sound of the creative relationship Jon and I have developed over the last eight years or so." The songs chosen for the EP are ones very close to the singer's heart: "These tunes mean a lot to me," says Al. "They're all great songs that I play a lot on the stereo or myself with the guitar. When you put together the connection that they're all written by Merseysiders, the 'Sound' EP is the natural next step." Written by Ian Prowse (Pele, Amsterdam), Dave McCabe & The Zutons, Kathryn Williams, Alun Parry and John Power (The La's, Cast), the songs that make up the 'Sound' EP will keep you company wherever you listen to music. "I've always been a great listener," says Al. "This is the Only Child release where that dedication pays off."
